The Flash Code ICD "Bookshelf" and its sections

DIAGNOSIS codes are required for documentation and submission of health care claims within the United States of America. They are found in the ICD-9-CM code set.

The structure of the ICD diagnostic codes includes four main sections and may be accessed in Flash Code by clicking on any of the corresponding section icons.
-Numerical index (CODES)

This is where the final code selection is made as each code contains a full description plus supportive information to assist with the selection process.

In addition to the numerical listing of codes, there are accessory tables that map other terms to their related diagnosis as listed in the CODES section.

There are three accessory tables in the ICD diagnosis system:
-Alphabetical index (INDEX)
-Table of Drugs and Chemicals (DRUGS)
-Table of Neoplasms (NEO'S)

More information for each of these sections may be accessed by clicking on the subtopic links seen to the left.

PROCEDURE codes are billed by hospitals and represent an additional section of the ICD-9-CM system. Flash Code provides access to these codes by navigating from chapter headings to codes or by selecting a checkbox to include them in the ICD Search Options.

Medical Severity Diagnosis Related Groups (MS-DRG) are used by hospitals for in-patient billing. Flash Code provides access to the Major Diagnostic Categories, MS-DRG titles, attributes and content, plus cross link access at the point of ICD diagnosis and procedure codes.
