ICD Code Searches

A. Clicking on NEW SEARCH will allow you to enter search criteria and set search options--as seen below.
B. Your last search criteria is remembered in each book spine. If you need to redo your last search, just click on the 'GO' button.

1. You can enter entire words or partial words only. This search will find closed fracture of the radius. Flash Code will not spell check until you ask it to. This allows rapid searches of partial words.
Our experience has shown that the "ALL" setting is best for coding. This way you can see any code that meets your search criteria. Notes found in a 3 digit category, and additional synonyms might confirm you are on the right track with your search results

2. Selecting this check box allows you to search both book notes such as includes and excludes as well as notes that you have created. Tip: If you want to put in additional names for codes, such as regional names or special abbreviations, go ahead and do so...these can be found when the Notes option is selected

3. Enhanced search will simultaneously look for your criteria in the CODES, INDEX, DRUGS, and NEOS spines, plus a listing of common abbreviations used in the health care industry, then display matches in the CODES file for final review.
Use this option if you want to do all of your coding from the CODES book spine.

4. Allow Vol 3 will set the search to also find any ICD Volume 3 PROCEDURE codes. Enable this selection only if you wish to find codes used and billed by hospitals for medicare part A claims.

5. The 'Only Search' option can be selected for two specific circumstances.

-You wish to search for a specific abbreviation, but know that the abbreviation will also find a large number of irrelevant codes. Example: You wish to find diagnosis codes associated with Aortic Stenosis---which has an abbreviation of 'AS'. If you type in AS for your search, Flash Code will find any code that starts with the letters AS and return over 1,200 entries. You can narrow the search by clicking the radio button for Abbreviations---Flash Code will now look in a special abbreviation only table to find all descriptions that can be abbreviated with AS.

-ICD Vol 3 AND CPT. We have had a number of insurance agencies and billing companies that wish to simultaneously search the ICD Vol. 3 (hospital procedures) and CPT (Treatment) codes. Flash Code now offers this feature. Simply click on the radio button to activate this search. All found codes will be displayed side by side for comparison. Try these searches: Appendectomy, Amniocentesis

Note: The criteria you select (Abbreviations or Vol3 AND CPT) apply to the current search only.

6. Word List. The spell check has been replaced with a word list. If you are having trouble spelling a word, just click on the Word List button. All of the words found in the current file are listed in alphabetical order. Just start typing the letters of the word. The list will display words that start with the letters you are typing. If you mistype a word, pause for a few seconds and you can start again. The list will refresh with the new letters you type. Once you have found the word you need, just click the enter button to select it, then add any other words you wish to use in the current search.
